BUYING A HOME IN CHARLESTON, SC

When buying beachside property, buyers need to know what they are getting. Property on a barrier island is more expensive than buying inland, but you are buying a lifestyle, a slower pace of life, a place where one can walk on the beach after work, or walk around the neighborhood talking to neighbors. Living at the beach gives you a chance to meet others who vacation here, wanting to live for at least a week or two the lifestyle you have chosen.

On the islands, there are so many different type of homes to choose from: oceanfront, back waterfront with a dock, marshfront, lakefront, in planned neighborhoods or on neat well groomed streets. On Sullivan’s Island, one can choose to live with history going back to before the Civil War with fantastic old government-built quarters to homes that rival those found anywhere. The islands are made up of a diverse selection of homes ranging from small cottages to luxurious mansions.

The Isle of Palms is  made up of an assorted range of ownership: about 1/3 are island residents, 1/3 are 2nd home property owners, and the last 1/3 are vacation properties owned by both locals and those from afar. The common denominator is that everyone is friendly and quick to say hello.
